Meet Patricia Arteaga, HASA President
'09-'10
Hello and
welcome to St. Clare's HASA!
I strongly believe in the blessings that volunteering brings into
our lives, and this is why I welcome the opportunity of serving on
the Board.
I truly love St. Clare School. This institution has been a wonderful place for my two boys, Lehi and David, providing them with strong academics and, most importantly, strong values. Every morning when I leave the school after dropping my children, I drive away with a calm feeling knowing that my children are safe at St. Clare's.
I am a full-time working mother. I am the Director at the Center for Academic Development in Bloomfield College. I came to Bloomfield College in September of 1994 after teaching in Garfield, NJ, for a year.
I received a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). My interests are science, applied math, writing, website design, and playing with my two sons and taking them to the NETS games.
You may contact me at 201-741-3738 or e-mail me at: HASA@saintclareschool.com
I look forward to meeting you at the fundraising events and HASA meetings.

Message from the Board
St. Clare School Families: “We Are A Community”
Dear Parents, Teachers, and Friends,
The Saint Clare Home and School Association (HASA) would like to welcome all of you back for an exciting new school year. A special warm welcome to the many new families (more than ever) joining our “family”. We also want to wish our new pastor and administrator, Father Peter, a wonderful first school year at our institution. Welcome all!
This is going to be the third year that some of us have been serving on the Board. Reflecting back, it is clear that many of the things that make St. Clare School strong and special can be directly or indirectly attributed to its active fundraising program. Allow us to elaborate. Parents love the small classes and special attention that the teachers pay to the children. We appreciate the fact that we know every child and every family. Many of us continue our St. Clare “connection” after 3:00 PM. We have become personal friends. We help each other with child care and transportation. Some of us who don’t have extended families in America even have had to rely on a St. Clare family during urgent times. Finally, and most importantly, our children love to play and spend time together. You may be wondering, what is the connection to fundraising? Clearly, the funds that HASA provides to the school allow St. Clare to be small, and that translates into more personalized attention, positive behavior, and the right academic atmosphere in the classroom which studies say is one of the most important factors conducive to learning.
Fundraising activities also promote interaction between school families of all grades. Also, fundraising helps family members to interact with each other. Our spouses, siblings, and children are actively involved during fundraising so the event becomes a family project. In these fast times when there is no time for sit-down dinners, we welcome activities that promote kin interaction.
Another benefit of fundraising is that it helps to build character in our children. St. Clare students are social, friendly, and charitable. From early years, many have helped their school volunteering with all chores: cleaning, serving food, setting up tables and chairs, caring for the younger children, etc. The values of hard work and charity are embedded in many of them early on.
Finally, the proceeds from fundraising keep tuition lower and allow socio-economic diversity in our school.
We are glad to see that many parents now welcome the fundraising “work” because its benefits are clear. We hope that new families will also embrace fundraising.
This year our theme is “We Are A Community”. Please continue helping us in making our community stronger. Mentor new families, be involved, attend our events, and do your best during your fundraising activities.
We want to wish everyone a wonderful school year. Remember that we are just a phone call or e-mail away! Contact us with any question or concern related to our social and fundraising activities. All our information may be found on the Home & School Association website.
Have a wonderful year!
Saint Clare Home and School Association 2009-2010
